Engine swap is getting closer to a test drive. Still have issues though. NO output from the alternator! ..I think the problem is because the BCM was not part of the swap. So, does any one have a solution. In reading through GM Docs it appears the BCM talks to the ECM via the GMLAN this communication is integral and sets in motion how the ECM will control to the alternator.
Anybody have any suggestions?

I don't like to drag traffic away from this site but there are many discussions about this over at LS1Tech.com. A lot will depend on exactly which alternator you are running. The bottom line is that you are likely in for some battery and PCM rewire effort to the "L" and "S" terminals on your alternator for proper excitation and load sensing.

That was exactly the problem ie load sensing. Motor home electrical systems back in 1983 were wired to accommodate non computer controlled electrical systems and their associated alternator regulator systems. These systems utilized a diode commutating scheme to charge auxiliary batteries. AS a result the alternator would never see the battery voltage and would not come on line. A little engineering foolery took care of that problem.Quote:
