My 7165 ecm will not fire injectors, checked every thing i could, so thinking about moving to a 7730 . The question is will the memcal from the 7165 work in the 7730?
I am using the moates adaptor
Memcal: No. . . as far as I know, never tried a '7165 Memcal in a '7730. I usually convert a V6 '7730 Memcal to a V8 7730 Memcal. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-...l-mod-run.html
Adapter board: Yes, works with the Memcal for a '7730
Netress is the same for both ecms just need appropriate $8d tune and a 27c256 chip. You can run a external esc on pin b8 of the 730.
Thanks everyone, I did get my old 7747 to run engine although not very well. i have read it is possible but would be better off moving to the 7730.
Forgive me but what is netress?, and to I need to add a resistor to the knock sensor or just connect the esc to B8 on the 7730
Yes, that is correct. The 3.9k ohm ks works only with real v8 esc knock boards. The 86-89 netress on the 165 will have a different number on them than the aujp, anjf but the 89 165 netress was the same part number as 90-92 730 ecm. They all work and get the same firing rate and lhm.
Great thanks for the info, I will post the outcome when I get the 7730 installed.
Ok have the 7730 ecm with 7165 memcal installed, external est(knock) connected to b8, I am getting code 43 knock sensor failure, do I need to add 3.9 resistor to ground on pin f9?
Or move from b8 to f9 and use a 3.9 resistor? Seems like everything i have read does not really address the 7730 with 7165 mem cal which does not have the knock filter on memcal.
Any help will be greatly appreciated
Possibly an ESC Module is required.
The picture below is for TBI not TPI and is for reference only, do not use as a wiring diagram.
1227730 TPI did not use an external ESC Module, but many TBI computers used external ESC Modules.
The early TBI computers, with external ESC Modules used a 100K Ohm knock sensor.

Just turn of the ks in the $8d tune 020c o20d iirc
Thanks For the info, however I am having bigger issues with 7730 the car ran with 7747 ecm although not very well, with the 7730 I have spark, the injectors are firing but will not run.
as far as I can tell VATS is disabled. Any thoughts???
What won't work????
There is the option to convert a ‘7730 V6 Memcal to a ‘7730 V8 Memcal.

Modifying the '7730 V6 Memcal for V8 is low cost, simple, and very effective. I've been there, done that, and the results have provided many, many miles of smiles.:jfj:
Biggest issue is if the hardware is in different locations. '165 code sends a message to injector driver to fire injectors but 730 board says "Nobody at that address."Quote:
The '7165 ecm uses a 16k memcal eprom, the '7730 uses a 32k memcal eprom. Completely different instruction set.
7165 can run $12P Holden speed density code.
More Information, How to connect ESC module in place of a Memcal knock filter see attached.
I see some clarification might be required when converting a ‘7730 V6 Memcal to V8.
1. Install jumper into '7730 V6 Memcal, no other '7730 V6 Memcal modification needed or required.
2. Install ‘7730 TPI 4K knock sensor into engine block. I use Standard Motor Products knock sensor part number KS6.
3. Connect Knock Sensor connector wiring directly to ‘7730 pin F9.
Hey All, 7730 installed w/v6 mod memcal, had to change injector flow rate to 24 to get it to clear flood and run, the biggest issue is I a getting CTS & MAT Low errors they are connected to E16 & F 16 grounded to B5& B6.
Tuner Pro RT latest and & $8D. Both worked connected to earlier ecm . is it an addressing issue or what ???
both edited to show F instead of Celsius reading 32 and not changing, start up engine temp reads 265 stone cold????????????????????
The schematics I have for the 7730 Sensors:
F16 - MAT Signal
B5 - MAT Ground (Low Reference)
E16 - CTS Signal
B6 - CTS Ground (Low Reference)
Maybe try the attached $8D .adx file, "WITHOUT" the 10K jumper on the ALDL Cable.

Thanks, Dave not using 10k jumper and wired as shown, belive I have a bad ecm ordered a replacement , reason being have issues with both circuts what are the chances of that??
Seems like this car just don't want to run, have had one issue after another
Thnks All for the input,
Now that i have earlier issues resolved, I had to move injector flow rate to 24 from 19 ( i had 22lb injectors but was having issues with them, so for now 19 it is) i am running an 84 corvette. moved from crossfire tbi to mpi SD.
the question is:::: Should I continue to adjust flow rate to resolve the rich condition or adjust VE??? I Know with TBI adjust BPW until close then VE.
I’m thinking injector flow to correct rich is to increase the injector flow rate.
For example the WBO2 is showing AFR’s averaging 12.4 with an injector flow rate of 22 lb/hr. After increasing the injector flow rate to 24 lb/hr the AFR’s are averaging 13.8.
Increasing the injector flow rate makes the computer “think” less fuel / smaller injector pulse width is needed.
I adjust the VE Table when the data log shows some AFR’s are Lean and some AFR’s are Rich.
Adjusting injector flow is course tuning and adjusting VE Table is fine tuning.
Most if not all 305 TPI engines had 19 lb injectors as original equipment.
Thanks Dave was very helpful, now on to the next question now the car is running idle is ok when hot, but really rich when cold, is there something like a choke that can be adjusted separately from flow rate & or VE??
I use Log File Analyzer for $8D Tuning:
http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Inj...+File+Analyzer
Log Analyzer Quick Tuner -- Tuning Made Easy - Third Generation F-Body Message Boards
Thanks Dave W. it looks interesting however it will not run on my win11 with office 360(latest Ver.) getting error "hidden module not compatible"
Possibly send gearhead-EFI member 84Elky a private message about the Win 11 errors, he’s the author of the analyzer tool.
Possibly see if http://www.gearhead-efi.com/Fuel-Inj...light=analyzer
works, it’s a different tuning tool authored by gearhead-EFI member Steveo.
Maybe LOG FILE ANALYZER-v11 will work for you?
Thanks Dave W. ver 11 loaded and seems to work, ELKY84 I cant find him seems like he is no longer around, whent and downloaded a another analyzer tool called table hack I got it thru your link above, it looks interesting but I need to get some data logging done now that the car is running fairley well
Update. 84Elky
