modifying a non GM distributor for TBI

Hello all,

Not sure if this is the right forum so please move if needed.

I have an AMC 360 in a CJ7, I have been considering converting to EFI but most aftermarket systems worry me with reliablilty and vendor specific parts. We get far from home and in the mountains so waiting for holley to ship me a part is not good.

can i modify a MSD billet and 6AL box to work with a 1227747? I already have an auto prom from Moates and I am familiar with the TBI systems.

It would be nice to use the timing control. TBI is bullet proof, and if i do need a part, every parts store of bone yard has what i need.

I have read a few post saying the conversion is easy but never any detail.

On the AMC distributer you only need to take off the low pressure advance and the flywheel advance.Of course you have to weld both shafts together.
On the other side you may leave all that like it it is and disable spark advance in the bin file. A guy in the jeep forum drove the car like that. It is the easy way. If you disable all
the spark advance in the distributor you need to write your own spark advance tables for this engine.I went the other way converting the dist on my 8 cyl 304 engine and i am still not completely satisfied with my spark advance.

The MSD 6AL Tachometer signal can be used to trigger the 1227747. The 6AL Tachometer Output wire produces a 12 volt square wave signal, similar to the tachometer signal from a GM Ignition Module.

No, but i am too stupid to alter the spark advance tables fitting to my V8! :-)

There are options when converting to TBI, computer controlled timing vs. fuel only is one option to consider.

I think everyone is on a different learning curve, so maybe fuel only is a good starting point. There is also the option to fuel only with the 6AL and stock distributor :thumbsup: As the learning curve permits or as a future goal, going computer controlled timing is still an option.:rockon:
