I used a composite gasket from Enginetech.
It occurred to me just now that I might want to clean it off and see if it's actually leaking. A couple of weeks back, I had a heater hose burst. I suppose it's possible that some coolant ran down...
Unfortunately, each of those 4 pictures is a different corner of the block. Both left and right heads, front and back. It appears to be coming from the head to block mating surface on all four...
Hello again,
I am relatively new to engine building. I've done plenty of work on existing engines but my experience with new builds is in development.
I just finished putting a brand new build...
Another option is to hook up tunerpro with an ALDL to USB cable with a laptop. If you can find a definition file for your ECU. That will give you the computer's reading for what RPM the engine is...
Run engine til it's warm. Shut it off and jumper pins A and B. Turn key on, do not start. Wait 10 seconds, and then unplug the IAC. Confirm It has closed all the way. You should be able to see...
You are right, it would open up to whatever idle speed is set to in your chip, but the point is, it wouldn't go all the way back up to 1000.
If it does go back to 1000, then it's something in the...
Might be an issue with USB drivers. Do other USB peripherals work?
You can test your ECU but it would require you to adjust your manual idle control.
If you jump A & B or otherwise plug the IAC and adjust your manual screw to idle at about 600 rpm, the computer...
I'm not sure, but I had a similar problem and that's what it was. In my case, I had my ALDL connector for data logging connected. To connect to my particular computer, I need to use a 10k resistor....
If there was a short through a thin medium it could add resistance between the wires.
It could also be that someone wired a switch in somewhere to put it in diagnostic mode and they did a shoddy...
Correct. Normal operation is open loop.
0 resistance puts it into a diagnostic mode that will flash the SES light.
3.9k resistance is another mode (I don't remember what this one does at the...
Some GM ECUs have a factory diagnostic mode that requests a constant 1000 rpm regardless of other settings. Putting a 10k resistor between pins A and B will activate it. If your wires are worn and...

Carnage. I got another look at it in the light and realised that it would have been coming out the other way and spraying back toward the distributor and coil. They are both covered in...
Do you have your scanner hooked up constantly as you are testing?
Edit: I read more of the thread and answered my own question.
Check for resistance across pins A and B of your ALDL connector.
Has anyone ever had experience with rapid loss of coolant and the engine shutting off immediately?
Will the computer kill the engine like that?
I have an 89 Firebird TBI.
The plastic fitting on...
Well I am both sad and delighted to report that she is now running. I found the problem. It was me. I am the problem. I installed the distributor backwards. Thank you everyone for your...
It is certainly possible. Would the rotor being backwards cause that? I.E. pointing at wire 1 when #6 is at TDC?
A combination of a low battery and bad spark plug wire seems to have been the culprit on the spark issue. I think steveo was right. Now I have a different issue. The TBI is spitting fuel like a...
Sounds good. That makes sense.
So I have two separate issues now.
Next thing that I'm going to verify is that the Rotor is actually spinning. It seems that would explain the issue better than...

The starter solenoid looks like it us run through the ECU. Am I interpreting that wrong?
0 ohms from the distributor shaft to the intake manifold. Open loop from the coil post to the shaft.
Let me check for resistance between the middle post and the shaft then. Would that be telling?
It's a 1995 350 block with vortec heads and a custom burnt chip. Not exactly L05 but closer.
I just jumped the outside two wires on the starter relay and it cranks again. Is the VATS not part of the ECU?
It's gone back to no spark at the plugs now though too.
