when i see leaks from a fresh engine on more than one surface it must be some fundamental issue

    damaged or incorrect gasket(s)

    mistorqued fasteners

machinist needs to be taken out back for "a chat"

Lots of maybes but it's likely something simple.

What head bolt torque value did you use?
Can you see any leakage from under the valve covers?

    Hiya's,
I'll throw this out there...I had a set of EngineTech head gaskets leak water as I was filling the radiator, I was hoping a couple heat cycles would do something, nope. The fire ring wouldn't compress enough for the rest of the gasket seal to work :(

Umm not on the blocks I have. There are multiple blind holes. I always blow the blind holes out to prevent cracking the block.

sbc definitely have head bolts that go into coolant. you're right not all but i put sealer on all of them so they torque the same
YMMV but thats what I was taught.

I can understand that but a SBC also used different torque values for the different lenghts of bolts. The newer LT1s and Vortecs are TTY as well despite some claiming TTA. The bolts made in the past decade for those applications all stretch.
