    ...the ECM Hanger's Club

    ecm-hanging-under-dash.jpg

UPS dropped-off a box of Moates gear just before lunch, so I took that opportunity to swapout the original (or maybe not?) ECM with the ZIF'd one that Moates soldered-up for me. The 1227747 that I pulled has the ANLX chip in it - which doesn't seem to equate to this California 5.7L 4x4 3.73 gear 1/2 ton Suburban, so maybe it's been previously swapped. That being said, other than a rough idle (no other explanation - everything was gone though), ANLX got me 13.5 MPG on the highway. Not bad for a lifted Suburban, IMO.

I hooked the Burn2 programmer up to my laptop and loaded an ASDU bin (actually the ASDX3 file from Post# 9) and...the Suburban would only run in limp-home mode - wth? Okay, some more digging around and I discovered that the 27SF512 has to be spaced-back two rows from the handle-end of the Burn2. Erase, reprogram - success! The engine purs like a kitten - I think my rough idle is gone. I am getting a couple of air pump flags (no air pump on this vehicle), so I need to turn those off - but solid 128 BLMs at idle (a bit rich, though - O2 is a solid 0.6xx).

I might take Friday off just so I can go datalog this thing and start tweaking my VE tables. I can see this new hobby is going to be a bit addictive

One question - ASDU seemed (seat of the pants - though I could go over some old logs) to take forever to go closed-loop, well north of 180 degrees. Is that normal for this BIN?

Nope! It's set to 35C, after a good dialed in tune it can go much lower.

The ASDX has an Air Pump, just raise the temp to MAX in "Min Temp for AIR diverter - *Max to disable*"

Don't use BLM if not in Closed Loop.

ANLX was a Ca 5.7L Auto bin and superseded to ASDZ.

Okay, made some progress today! First of all, thanks for the head-slap on ASDX, Mark - I switched over to ASDU, but I copied-over the SA table from ASDX since it idled so well. Here's the initial log with no tuning...
    blm-history.jpg
Then I added VE2 to VE1 and zeroed-out VE2. Ran the numbers through Dave's spreadsheet and logged this...
    blm-history-combined-ve1.jpg
Rinsed, repeated Dave's spreadsheet and logged this...
    blm-history-combined-ve2.jpg
I'm starting to converge on it - a few more runs tomorrow and I think I'll be in the ballpark, maybe even in the infield.

Believe it or not your already in the ballpark!

Those BLM numbers look better then some stock vehicles with stock bins!

You can get closer but you'll never get a perfect 128 across board, it's impossible without some INT/BLM changes. Even then if weather and temp changes so do they...

Are you clearing BLM learn history by disconnecting battery after a new bin? Are you smoothing the VE table so next adjustments are easier?

I switched over to ASDU, but I copied-over the SA table from ASDX since it idled so well.
Idle spark and all spark is about identical, but decal spark is completely different in a manual bin? I can't tell if you have auto or manual? Use appropriate bin to start. Many differences in IAC logic between the two. Use compare feature in TunerPro and keep the VE table you worked on.

    Keep up the good work!

Aw shoot, thanks for reminding me to smooth the adjacent cells, Mark. That made a huge difference in pulling the numbers in...

I'm really excited to finally get my idle BLM up - this thing has been pig-rich from day one. I'm going to turn HiWay, PE, DFCO and EGR back on now and get a new MPG test in, this weekend. SA tuning is next, so I'll start filling it up with premium

It's a lot better. Just going over the log now and it looks like a steady 550 - 600. Before, it would modulate between 425 and 650 - even higher after hitting the stall saver.

Logged some highway data today to see how Lean Cruise is working and the engine is running really nice.

I am going to try raising the HiWay Max MAP from 74.69 to 78 in order to accomodate some of these hills, where it drops-out of Lean Cruise. I'm currently running 2-degrees of spark in Lean Cruise, with the AKAJ spark profile above 60 MAP. No knocks, so far.

I added a few degrees of SA from 50 - 100 MAP, going from this...

    To this...

Not a big change, but I'm going slow trying to dial-in the mid-range area. It really felt like it was falling-over when the RPM's dropped on the 2-3 shift, so I'm trying to smooth some of that out. Cold start did not like the extra ~2 degrees at idle (50 MAP), so I added 2 degrees to the Cold Bias, to make-up for it.

Just an update on where I'm at - currently running with my 15th BIN file:

    22mar-sa-bin15.jpg

I want to get several full tanks of gas through this one so that I can get an overall picture of how it's performing. It certainly is running well and "feels" like it has more oats than it did before. MPG will tell the tale, and I have enough historical data on that for a good comparison.
