just getting started - tbi with old school edelbrock efi conversion

    Hi guys.

So, long story short. I'm helping my uncle (finally) tune his 90 tbi (originally) suburban that he converted to the old edelbrock efi bolt on deal.....like 12 years ago. The guys burned him a like 7 different chips but it never ran well at all. It is a 7747 ecm.

It has the 24 pin uv prom in there. And we are adding the 28 pin eeprom. My questions are these:

How do I keep the info from the current tune so I can modify that one, if it is saved in the 24 pin chip?

Do I have to solder on the new chip holder? I haven't seen it yet, he says it looks like it plugs into the 24 pin chip holder and the 28 pin chip fits into that. He did buy the zif as well.

Here's the Moates instructions for installing the G2 adapter which I think is what you got?
    http://support.moates.net/g2-adapter-installation/

I don't use the dip sockets and solder the G2 directly to board. That way when your done and install a chip you can get the cover back on.

You can read the 24 pin chip then burn the image to 28 pin with offsets:

Is this the Edlebrock TBI to MPFI conversion?

I looked on the moates site and I didn't see those instructions! Thanks for posting that link.

What your said after that implies to my naivete that you can do it like I said and not solder it? Or you definitely have to solder it per the write-up? Sorry for the confusion.

Yes, it is the edelbrock tbi to mpfi kit.

    Thanks again for your help!

I solder them in. Never tried just sticking one in place of the chip. It may work but the fit is not designed for that.

I would not use a '7747 in an MPFI application again. While I was able to get the engine running, it never ran well. Swapped to a '7730 with S_AUJP ($8D), and it runs great.
The man who says something is impossible, is usually interrupted by the man doing it.

I agree with Six_Shooter, the 7730 is a much better ECM for MPFI.
