keep in mind excessively rich AFRs and excessively retarded timing can be hell on the exhaust valves/seats. makes the AFRs shoot through the roof.

if you're going to go through the work of head studs, you may want to consider just moving to the Gen 3 block first... quite a few improvements were made between the gen 1 and gen 3 blocks.

I am considering that at the moment.

The plan is to swap the good cylinder bank head over to the bad(low comp size) to see if its the valve guides or whatnot. And also to just toss a new head gasket on there with the right head and do a quick leakdown test and since I didnt do that before I ripped it apart. Either way I need to find the problem and what caused the problem to arise.

Man that's a lot of piston skirt wear. Or was that because of the ring?

its common wear due to the offset pin. a poor trade off to keep piston slap noise to a minimum lol since youre an old timer you would know that flipping the pistons is an old skool trick to gaining a few ponies for racing only lmao

All the pistons look like that one, having the wear on the thrust side of the piston. That ring broke but thankfully didnt cause any other major issues to the cylinders. Now I just have to figure out what to do with that block. New pistons and rings are a definite but I have to say its a sad day but I also knew it was messed up since I shut it down a month ago at the track after that pull.

Did the broke ring damage the block bad? If it scored the wall bad you could just have that cylinder sleeved.

No the block is ok "looking". I can still see the cross hash marks, I can not feel any scoring but can barly see some if I just look at it right. You have to really look hard to see it on a certaint angle.

I did measure it which probly is wrong. But anyways it as roughly "one and a half thousands" out of round and same with the off bore measurements. I hope it block turns out to just need honed or bored and honed out. I plan to get some hyper pistons and moly rings to put into it. Id go forged but there hard to get and cost upwards of 500 bucks for a rin piston kit. This time arround I thing I will be more content making low 13 or high 12 second passes for a while.

Im still not sure if it was just the tight ring gap that caused the ring and ring land to break or if it was something i did personally.

Measuring cylinders correctly takes some special tools and also needs to be done from top to bottom of cylinder around the 360 degree circumference, it will be perfect one way and egg shaped the other. Get a good machine shop to bore and hone cylinders to new pistons!

i thought the bores were supposed to be perfectly circular, but the pistons slightly out of round?

I just used a bore guage and a mic to measure the cylinders. But i know my bore guage isnt as accurate. I did measure 3 layers of the cylinder and on a x pattern to see if its outa shape, how bad the taper is and also the bore itself, which it is a little off but the shop would know better then me.

I have a gut feeling though that I will have to bore it out a tad. 20 or 30 over depending on the shape of it. 112k miles so im sure its warn a little even without the broken ring. Car loves to eat my $$$
