Reading Memcal - missing something really simple! Help Please!

Received my Moates gear today from UPS
    - Burn 2, HDR1, and G1
    - have Tuner Pro RT (paid)
    - Flash and Burn installed.
    - correct and updated Drivers installed.

Try to read a 16168625 - BDJY memcal and save to my laptop.

select a 27C512 in flash and burn and hit Read Chip.
States it was read and is in the buffer.
Save buffer info (.bin) to laptop.

Open with Tuner Pro RT with the current .xdf and .adx from Turner Pro.
Nothing is populated in any of the fields or tables.
Look at what Flash and Burn said it saved, shows 1 byte.(eh, this memcal came from a recently running truck)

I am missing a simple step somewhere, please show me the error in my ways.

NOTE: I can do everything I need to on a P01/P59 with TPRTv5.

    Thanks,

    Louis

Never Mind! Figured it out after searching deeper in this forum. Did not have the Buffer addressing set the same as the chip addressing.
    All is good!

for future people, you didn't say exactly what you did wrong. We all had to start somewhere, eproms are tough when you are learning. :)

The 1st thing I did wrong was not correctly use the search function in this outstanding forum for others that had the same issue!! The legendary Eagle Mark (RIP) and a few others had post that led this flashing newb back to the correct path!

    Next, to resolve the issue:

In the Moates Flash and Burn software it automatically populates the Chip Addressing start and end when you select the chip type to be read. But does not populate the Buffer start and end on it's own.

Since it was the first time to use the software, the Buffer Addressing start and end where both set to 000000 (six zero's)! Thus when I read the memcal, it only read 1 byte.

The Buffer addressing start and end should be the same as the Chip Addressing, in this case start = 000000 and end = 00FFFF for a 27C512 chip most commonly found in '93 - '95 memcals. With those set, the read had the correct number of bytes in the buffer, which was 65536 for the BDJY .bin. Click "Save Buffer to File", give it a file location and save!

Then I was able to open it correctly in TPRTv5!

Next couple of pieces of this journey will be to learn how to data log and then burn a modified .bin to a 27SF512 chip using the G1 adapter.

Thanks again for all those that have given so much to this forum and continue to give.

    Ah, the Saga Continues!
    Have the burner/reader working correctly.
Have the truck running so/so! Waiting for FedEx to deliver a part from Speedway Motors so I can rephase my modified distributor. Seems I have it just a touch off. Was gonna add this part anyway at a later time.

Now for the problem - started playing with the chips and installed one with a G1 Memcal adapter - well, the truck runs in limp home mode and the CEL is on.
Swapped to the '7427 PCM with matching memcal, G1, same thing.
Double and Triple checked the burned chip, in fact can read and write to it thru the G1 Memcal adapter.
Cannot see anything physically wrong with the G1 Adapter, but the PCM's are not seeing the chip.

Truck runs fine(ish) with the Memcals plugged in like factory!

Note: My G1 does have the ZIF socket, but, removed it and installed the chip direct, same issue.
And yes, the chip and the memcal are installed in the correct orientation.

Has anyone encountered this and how did you resolve it, still using the G1?

Update Edit: Finally made things work. Reset the Com Port latency to 1 in device settings for the Burn 2.
Was able to clone the original chip on the memcal to a chip using the Moates G1, started normally without a CEL.
2nd Chip: used the original saved file to write the 2nd chip, success, no CEL
3rd attempt: modified the EGR parameters to turn it off, wrote to the chip and the truck starts without a CEL.

So banging my head on the table most of the morning, finally made progress and able to read, save, edit and write chips that work. YeeHaw!
