I am a programmer from Serbia and I thought modding, tuning of cars would be an interesting hobby. I am new to the modding and tuning and I do not know much about cars but I am willing to learn.
I own Ford Focus 2008 MK2 Coupe Titanium Stock (1.6 TI-VCT 116Hp Petrol engine).
What I know about tuning so far correct me if I am wrong:
- I need an OBD2 connector to connect my laptop to the car ECU. (I bought for start the 2 cheapest ELM327 to test how it goes but I will buy obdlink mx+ or something like that afterwards if it turns out to be fun as I expect it to be).
- I need PCM Hammer to get Bin files of my ECU, and also so that I can flash that same ECU. (I plan to use PCM Hammer to extract bin files and then probably find some XDF of a car with same engine and similar OS of ECU and Firmware)
- I Have no idea how to create XDF (I am not skilled enough to use Winols or to read hex files) and I have no idea where to find one for free if possible. If any one of you could help me it would be nice. (I will post OS, Firmware and everything as soon as I extract that data, as soon as the obd2 scanner arrives).
- I plan to use TunerPro to play around with XDF of a car and do minor tweaks till I get a hang of what should I actually do. (I also plan to use other tools like Forscan or some other tools for different purposes)
- After I tweak the XDF I plan to save it as bin and flash ECU with PCM Hammer. (I will save the one that I extracted from my ECU as a backup).
I believe this is the ECU Bosch ME 9.0 ECU but I gathered that information from internet and not from my car (still waiting for obd2 to arrive)
What also confuses me is that I saw some thread about flashing the OS of a car to some more popular but similar OS version and then tunning it. (I also do not understand that part).
As stated above I do not have experience in tuning and modding and any help or insights about the things that "I think I know", about the things that I did not mention here, or any insights at all would be useful.
In the meantime, if you need any programming help I am happy to help out the community.
