My laptop crashed this morning. All plans are on hold. Usually take 2 weeks to get it back. I knew it had a hard drive failing and tried to get the IT guy to replace it a few weeks back, but he said no.
Good news is that everything is backed up in 2 locations. Bad news is I did not back it up before I shut it down on Friday before leaving.

For sniffing the com port and data removal you can use the free software https://www.com-port-monitoring.com/
It works fine under Windows and Linux. With captured data, you can already access the data.
