and everything i'm reading says these chips are 5v only.
So - what chip should I buy?
I can't imagine 5 different .bin files all run the thing the exact same way - when everybody else is using them. So that usually only leaves user error.
(No I have no idea what I'm doing)

Interesting information, "runs OK with Original Memcal".
I have the equipment to erase and reprogram Original Memcals. I've been thinking you have similar capabilities to erase and reprogram Original Memcals?
Pics of your setup would help clarify what help you need.

I have the Moates G1 so I can keep cold start and limp home, and am trying to program the EEPROM chips and use them instead.
I say "runs OK" as in it runs the same with the original memcal as it did before. It still has no power, runs rich, loses timing, turns fans on at odd points, and thinks it's an automatic.

I think a few things need to verified. Pictures really help!
Is the Memcal correctly installed onto the G1 adapter? (backwards installation is a real possibility)
Is the chip correctly installed into the G1 Adapter? (backwards installation is a real possibility)
Is the Burn 2 correctly configured for erasing and programming the AT29C256? (incorrect configuration is a real possibility)
Was the AT29C256 correctly installed in the Burn 2 when programming the chip? (backwards installation is a real possibility)
Was the AT29C256 correctly indexed in the Burn 2 when programming the chip? The Burn 2 is capable of programming chips with 32 pins. (incorrectly indexing the chip into the Burn 2 is a real possibility)

Here's a pic of the setup. Marked yellow on the notches so you can see them a little better. The only thing not showing is the MEMCAL installed on the G1, it's back in the car - but I know it was installed and right, it's the only thing that was working (Cold start and LH)

I've only used the Burn 2 with 27SF512 Chips. Maybe try using a 27SF512 chip with offsets? http://support.moates.net/programmin...using-offsets/
Figuring everything Memcal and chip wise are correct, the .bin file programmed into the chip might be the next thing to verify. Possibly post the .bin file your using?

Are you just overwrting the bin to the EEPROM? Try if you haven't erase the EEPROM, followed by a blank check, load file to buffer then program chip . gl
